New Years Eve 2010

One day I hope to have a large house and lots of money (don't we all!?!) so I can throw the best parties ever! Not the type that you feel obligated to go to, but the kind that friends and family can't wait to attend. Until then, I will just have to plan them in my imagination, and here, on my blog. I hope you will indulge me as I plan and scheme, both as a place to record the ideas and maybe inspire other people. After all, who doesn't love a party?

My favorite parties are the kind that delight all your senses.

To See:
Gold, charcoal & silver decorations.

Loving the idea of decorating with clocks for the big New Years Eve countdown.

To Smell:
Scentsy: Hemingway, earthy yet still a little holiday-ish

To Hear:

Turn on pandora. My current favorite music consists of a quickmix made up of my Colbie Caillat, Michael Buble, Billie Holliday, and Regina Spektor. Or if you are looking to make your own mix be sure to include

"Fly Me to the Moon," Frank Sinatra
"Golden Years," David Bowie
"It Had to Be You," Harry Connick Jr.
“Footprints” Bare Naked Ladies
"Night Time Is the Right Time," Ray Charles
"Put Your Records On," Corinne Bailey Rae
"Rock Steady," Aretha Franklin
"Save the Last Dance for Me," Michael Buble
"My Revolution" Shedaisy
"Auld Lang Syne" Bare Naked Ladies
"The Best Is Yet to Come," Tony Bennett

To Taste :
A little something for everyone. Appetizers make new years feel like a party!

For Dessert: Hot Chocolate Bar

In Spain it is a tradition to quickly eat 12 grapes at midnight, so why not serve them as the garnish for your "sparkling cider" and toast to the new year.

To Touch:
Allow each partygoer to make their own noise makers. Learn to make on Martha Stewart.com

Make light of New Year’s resolutions by turning them into a guessing game. Give partygoers cards (download the New Year Playing Cards) and have guests finish the sentences with hopeful wishes―or tongue-in-cheek witticisms. Gather the cards, read them aloud randomly, then let the gang try to figure out who wrote what.  (idea and image from Real Simple.com)

Happy New Year!

I LOVE the grapes idea. I did that in Madrid on New Year's Eve in 2004-2005!
