Wuthering Heights

Have you read Wuthering Heights? I bought it a couple years ago with a gift card I received from my in-laws, and it has sat on my book shelf ever since. It was my turn to choose the book for Book Club this month and I decided it was time to dust off the supposed “classic.” I am only about half way through, but I am really enjoying it. Not that the characters are that likeable, they aren’t, but there is something about the way it is written and the unique story that is very intriguing. I can see why it is a story that has stood the test of time, but not used nearly as frequently to create new stories like the other premises of “Classics” so often are.

There is one story though where I am seeing many similarities…Twilight. Even though I have been a fan of the Twilight series for sometime now, I never put it together it is loosely based on Wuthering Heights, or at least I think it is. From what I can gather, it ends very differently. (obviously…no drinking blood involved here) Up through this first half I have read, I see a lot of parallels. From here on out is where it is going to get really different. I was wondering though if anyone else has read both and if they see any similarities. Did you like them both? Do you think Stephanie Meier did this on purpose? Is that why she quotes it in her book? Enlighten me with your thoughts!

NWLA Halloween Party

I love parties!!! This year for work I tried to keep the Halloween party pretty low key, but it was still a lot of fun. We had a pot luck potato bar with sides and lots of desserts. We had Halloween background music to set the mood, watched a couple short films by Tim Burton (he is a Halloween master) and had a fun treasure hunt. I had a blast decorating and I even won 2nd place for my costume, Yahoo!!!

1st Place : $100 to Dave (He wins every year, isn't this a great costume though!)

2nd Place:$50 to ME as Medusa (Its hard to see my snakes as they were washed out in the lighting. I didn't have a picture of me from this party, so this is from a ward Young Married's Acivity. Mason is dressed as Cesear)

3rd Place: $25 to Richard as a Whoopie Cushion (complete with sound effects
